Srinagar, Oct 13: Jammu and Kashmir is preparing for widespread intermittent light to moderate rain or snow, particularly in the higher altitudes, over the next four days starting on Saturday, according to officials.
The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has predicted the likelihood of light to moderate rain or snow in the higher reaches over the next 24 hours. Additionally, the Meteorological office has forecast that there will be widespread intermittent light to moderate rain or snow in the higher regions of Jammu and Kashmir during the following four days, beginning on Saturday. There is a 75 percent chance of heavy snowfall in some of the higher areas during this period. The fluctuations in weather conditions are expected to lead to a significant drop in temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir.
Currently, the weather is primarily clear, but it may become cloudy in the evening, with the possibility of rain or snow in the higher areas later in the night at various locations throughout Jammu and Kashmir. This inclement weather may result in temporary disruptions to transportation, particularly in vulnerable areas such as Zojila Pass, Mughal Road, Sinthan Top, Sadnatop, and other higher elevations in the Kashmir valley.
The Meteorological office has also issued a warning to farmers to delay harvesting their crops from October 14 to 18 due to the potential adverse weather conditions.
On Friday, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low temperature of 8.7 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam in south Kashmir registered 3.7 degrees Celsius, Kokernag recorded 8.9 degrees Celsius, and Gulmarg in north Kashmir had a temperature of 6.6 degrees Celsius, according to the Meteorological office.
