Mumbai, Sep 15 : The Shiv Sena (UBT) has criticized the Narendra Modi government for the recent loss of security personnel in Kashmir and has stated that the government’s assurance that the situation in the region would stabilize after the abrogation of Article 370 has proven to be false.
In an editorial featured in its party mouthpiece ‘Saamana,’ the Shiv Sena (UBT) noted that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains unsettled, while the Modi government seems engrossed in the success of G20.
“The Centre painted a picture that things would return to normalcy after the (abrogation of) Article 370, but it has ultimately proven to be untrue,” the editorial stated.
The encounter on Wednesday morning in the Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Gadole resulted in the tragic deaths of Colonel Manpreet Singh, commanding officer of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles unit of the Army, Major Ashish Dhonchak, Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Bhat, and a soldier, as reported.
The editorial pointed out that despite more than four years having elapsed since the abrogation of the special provisions of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, assembly elections have not yet taken place in the Valley. The editorial criticized the withholding of elections out of fear of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) losing, branding it a betrayal of the people.
Additionally, the Shiv Sena (UBT) asserted that despite the promises made at the time of Article 370’s abrogation, which included the return of Kashmiri Pandits, the establishment of new industries, and the creation of job opportunities in the Valley, none of these initiatives have come to fruition.
The party questioned the achievements of the BJP government in making Ladakh a separate union territory and pointed out that it has failed to reclaim land in Ladakh, protect Kashmiri Pandits, prevent soldier sacrifices, curb infiltration, or soothe the minds of the Kashmiri people. It concluded that these failures reflect the inadequacy of the government.
