New Delhi, September 14: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud made a significant announcement on Thursday, revealing that the Supreme Court is set to integrate with the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG). The NJDG serves as a comprehensive repository of data concerning the backlog of cases and the rate of court disposals, spanning from the taluka level to the national level.
As of now, the NJDG displays data only up to the high court level. However, the CJI announced that data from the Supreme Court will be uploaded to the NJDG in real-time.
In his remarks at the commencement of the day’s proceedings in the apex court, the CJI hailed the move as historic, emphasizing that this unique and informative platform had been developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in collaboration with the Supreme Court’s in-house team. He noted that with a simple click, users can access real-time information regarding the backlog and disposal of cases, including year-wise statistics, the total backlog of registered and unregistered cases, and the number of cases decided based on quorum.
The Chief Justice stressed that uploading Supreme Court data to the NJDG will enhance transparency and accountability within the judicial domain.
The NJDG functions as a comprehensive database encompassing orders, judgments, and case details from 18,735 district and subordinate courts, as well as high courts, forming part of the eCourts Project. Data is continuously updated by the connected district and taluka courts in near real-time.
The platform offers insights into judicial proceedings and decisions from all computerized district and subordinate courts across the country. Additionally, all high courts have integrated with the NJDG through web services, providing convenient access to the litigant public.
