Digitalization Drives Jammu and Kashmir’s Future Development, Says Chief Secretary

Digitalization drives J-K development

In the realm of modernization and development, digitalization has become the driving force behind Jammu and Kashmir’s transformation. Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta emphasized this pivotal role during the launch of the one-day Digital Fest in Lal Chowk. He attributed a significant portion of Srinagar’s recent development to the adoption of digital technologies.

“Digitalization has vastly improved the public delivery of services, and the development in Srinagar is a testament to its effectiveness,” Mehta stated firmly. “Digitalization empowers people while ensuring transparency and accountability. It is not just the way forward; it is the path to making Jammu and Kashmir future-ready. The visible progress in Srinagar is a direct result of our commitment to digitalization.”

Mehta highlighted the remarkable transformation in Srinagar, exemplified by improvements to Dal Lake, Lal Chowk, and the Polo View market, which he attributed to embracing digitalization. “We have harnessed the power of digitalization, leading to significant enhancements in the efficiency of public service delivery,” he emphasized.

In response to concerns about rising unemployment rates in the region, Mehta urged caution when interpreting data. He pointed out that self-employment figures in the years 2022-2023 and 2021-2022 had reached three lakhs annually, totaling six lakh self-employment opportunities. In contrast, just four years ago, these numbers stood at a mere 40,000, signifying a substantial increase in both opportunities and intentions.

Owais Mukhtar, representing the Jammu and Kashmir Bank, echoed the commitment to digitization. “We have already achieved 80 percent digitization in our accounts, meaning 80 percent of our customers have access to digital services, including ATM cards, mobile banking, and e-banking. Our immediate goal is to raise this figure to 90 percent this week, with a long-term target of achieving 100 percent digitization in the coming months,” Mushtaq declared. The bank’s dedication to digitalization aligns with its mission to modernize the region’s financial services and make them more accessible to residents.
