New Delhi, July 27 : A delegation of over 20 MPs from the Opposition alliance, INDIA, is set to visit Manipur on July 29 and 30 to assess the ongoing situation in the north-eastern state, which has been grappling with ethnic violence since May 3.
According to Congress whip in Lok Sabha, Manickam Tagore, the opposition leaders have been keen on visiting the violence-hit state for some time, but their requests were previously denied due to the prevailing situation. Notably, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had visited a few places in Manipur earlier.
The delegation comprises several MPs from the 26-party alliance, INDIA, and their primary objectives include gaining a first-hand account of the situation in Manipur and demanding discussions in both houses of Parliament concerning the state. Additionally, they seek a statement from the Prime Minister regarding the current situation in Manipur.
