Kota (RJ), Jul 11 : Police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against a coaching institute in Kota after the death of a 17-year-old IIT-JEE aspirant. The young student, Bhadur Singh, was found dead in his PG room in Mahaveer Nagar-II, with a suicide note recovered from the scene. The incident has raised allegations of harassment and suspension by the coaching institute, with the victim’s brother claiming that these actions led to his tragic decision to end his life.
Following postmortem and the arrival of Bhadur’s brother, Jai Bhim Singh, a case under Section 306 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) has been registered against the coaching institute authorities. Earlier, the police had initiated an investigation under Section 174 of the CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure) to determine the actual cause of death. Jai Bhim Singh alleged that despite Bhadur’s apologies, the institute refused to revoke his suspension, causing significant distress and ultimately leading to his suicide.
While the specific name of the coaching institute was not mentioned in the FIR, Jai Bhim Singh identified it as Physics Wallah Vidhyapeeth during discussions with the media after the postmortem. It has been revealed that Bhadur had a scuffle with another student at the institute, which resulted in his suspension. However, in the suicide note, Bhadur did not mention harassment by the coaching institute but cited a severe skin disease he had been battling for the past two years as a major source of distress.
This tragic incident is suspected to be the fifteenth suicide case by a coaching student in Kota this year alone. In 2022, at least 15 coaching students also lost their lives to suicide. Despite efforts by government and non-government agencies to address the issue, suicide cases among coaching students continue to rise.
