New Delhi, July 6 : The Supreme Court has deferred the hearing on a plea requesting the Election Commission and the government to conduct early assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. The bench, led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices P S Narasimha and Manoj Misra, noted that the petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 were scheduled for a hearing on July 11. “We will adjourn this. The 370 matter is listed for directions on July 11,” the bench stated. The counsel representing the petitioners argued that this case is distinct as the residents have been disenfranchised and urged the apex court to issue a notice in the matter. However, the bench declined to issue a notice and postponed the case. The petition was filed by leaders of the National Panthers Party (JKNPP), Manju Singh and Harsh Dev Singh, seeking directions from the Election Commission of India to conduct elections in the union territory without any further delay.
