SRINAGAR, Jun 3: Following a prolonged period of intermittent rainfall, officials have reported an improvement in weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir due to a decrease in temperature. The Meteorological Department has forecasted a mainly clear sky with a low possibility of brief spells of rain, thunder, or lightning in certain areas towards late afternoon or evening on Saturday.
According to the Meteorological Office, there will be a gradual increase in temperature, and the weather will predominantly remain dry, with occasional showers and thunderstorms expected from June 4-12. They further stated that no significant rainfall is expected until June 12.
Farmers have been advised to carry out all farming activities in the early morning hours until June 12, as there is a chance of rainfall occurring during the evenings. Additionally, the public is encouraged to plan outdoor activities for this weekend and the following week, as the risk of rain is relatively low.
On Saturday, Srinagar recorded a low temperature of 9.8 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day, which is 2.7 degrees Celsius below the summer capital’s normal average of 12.5 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature remained 4.0 degrees Celsius below the normal of 26.3 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, experienced a low of 8.2 degrees Celsius, which is 2.9 degrees Celsius below normal. Similarly, Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination in South Kashmir, recorded a low of 5.1 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees Celsius below normal. Kokernag, another popular picnic spot in South Kashmir, witnessed a low of 8.1 degrees Celsius, 3.0 degrees Celsius below normal. In the frontier district of Kupwara in Kashmir, the temperature dropped to 9.5 degrees Celsius, which is 1.5 degrees Celsius below normal. Gulmarg recorded a low of 3.2 degrees Celsius, 4.4 degrees Celsius below normal, as per the Meteorological Office.
