JAMMU, May 31: Rains continued to lash Jammu and Kashmir, with the night temperature falling below normal in most areas on Wednesday. The meteorological department has also forecast widespread intermittent light to moderate rain, thunder, and lightning, with a possibility of hailstorm and gusty winds in a few places until Friday.
According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar received 16.2mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 0830 hours today, while Qazigund received 7.6mm. Pahalgam recorded traces of rain, and Kupwara received 0.4mm. Other rainfall measurements include Kupwara (10.6mm), Gulmarg (8.8mm), Jammu (1.3mm), Banihal (11.8mm), Batote (33.6mm), Katra (4.8mm), and Bhaderwah (13.4mm).
In terms of temperature, Srinagar recorded a low of 11.6°C, slightly below normal for the summer capital. Qazigund’s temperature was above normal at 10.2°C, while Pahalgam was 1.2°C above normal at 7.8°C. Kupwara registered a temperature of 11.2°C, slightly above normal, while Kokernag was below normal at 9.1°C. Gulmarg recorded a low of 5.0°C, significantly below normal for the skiing resort. Jammu’s temperature fell to 18.0°C, Banihal to 10.5°C, Batote to 11.7°C, Katra to 16.1°C, and Bhaderwah to 10.8°C. Leh in Ladakh recorded a low of 4.8°C.
The weather conditions are expected to persist, with the possibility of more rainfall and below normal temperatures in the coming days.
