Athletes competing at Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Meet at University of Jammu

The Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Competition for All Age Group (AAG) Girls commenced today at the University of Jammu. Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu, the event showcased the gifts of young athletes.

More than 300 girl athletes from various government and private schools participated with enthusiasm in numerous track and field events. This vibrant assembly of talent underscored the importance of such competitions in nurturing sporting spirit among the youth.

During the competition, outstanding performances emerged particularly in the discus throw. In the U-19 category, Sweety Devi from Zone Marh earned gold, while Konika Chib from Zone RS Pura secured silver and Renu from Zone Bishnah achieved bronze. In U-17, Nidhi Verma from Zone Satwari won gold, followed by Kiran Kumari from Zone Bhalwal and Nirjala from Zone Bishnah. Meanwhile, Subhana from Zone Satwari clinched gold in U-14, supported by silver medallist Sonakshi from Zone Miran Sahib and Mansi from Zone Akhnoor taking bronze.

The 100m races also featured fierce competition. Damanpreet from Zone Bishnah claimed gold in the U-14 category, while Nishta Sharma from Zone Jammu excelled in U-17 and Shivani from Zone Jammu triumphed in U-19.

In the 400m events, Sahiba Choudhary from Zone Dansal emerged victorious in the U-14 race, continuing Nishta Sharma’s success as she dominated the U-17 event.

The highly competitive 300m event crowned Mehak from Zone Jammu and Sonia Choudhary from Zone Dansal as champions in their respective age categories.

In the high jump events, young athletes showcased remarkable talent. Shriya Bhagat led the way, winning gold for U-14 from Zone Chowki Choura. Rohika Devi claimed gold in U-17, while Payal Kumari stood out in U-19, both representing Zone Chowki Choura.

The DYSSO Jammu, alongside esteemed technical officials including Nirmal Singh, Chamel Singh, Sarabjeet Singh, Vijay Sharma, and Harsimran Singh, witnessed and supported the event.

Officials congratulated winners, emphasising the core values of dedication, discipline, team spirit, and sportsmanship throughout this athletic journey. Events like these play a significant role in building confidence and nurturing future sporting champions.
