Minister for Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, highlighted the essentiality of collective and sustained efforts to safeguard tribal values that form the foundation of communities in the Pir Panjal region during the Mendhar Tribal Mela.
The vibrant event took place today at Sagra, Mendhar (Poonch), organized by the Tribal Affairs Department in collaboration with the District Administration. Rana urged that development must not come at the cost of cultural erosion. He called for an integrative approach to ensure that progress aligns with the safeguarding of traditions while cautioning that unchecked modern influences might dilute tribal customs and moral frameworks.
Rana reaffirmed the Omar Abdullah Government’s commitment to inclusive development, aiming to establish a resilient, self-reliant tribal society rooted deeply in traditions. He praised the Tribal Affairs Department and local administration for their efforts in organizing the event, terming it a meaningful step towards development with dignity.
The Mela saw remarkable participation from the local community and served as a platform showcasing tribal heritage, food, and traditional wisdom. Various stalls displayed indigenous cuisines, medicinal plants, and healthcare knowledge systems, alongside a free medical camp that offered consultations and critical health services to the public.
This event not only entertained guests but also embodied the government’s determination to ensure that development policies remain firmly rooted in lived tribal realities, while celebrating the rich culture and heritage of the region.
In attendance were prominent figures including Chairperson DDC Poonch Tazeem Akhtar, and Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok Kumar Sharma, along with numerous locals who engaged with exhibitors and participated in discussions.
