Man Arrested in Mathura for Threatening CM Yogi on Social Media

Police arrested a man named Sunit alias “Katua” from Nagla Hardayal in Mathura on charges of threatening Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath through a viral social media video. The incident occurred on September 22, prompting immediate action from law enforcement.

Sunit appeared in the video brandishing a pistol and frighteningly claimed he would shoot the Chief Minister by September 25. He ominously indicated he would end his own life afterwards. The unsettling footage showcased him displaying a pistol magazine, stating it held nine bullets, threatening to “fire all nine”.

Reports suggest that Sunit expressed frustration over a complaint he had lodged with the CM’s office but felt ignored. This perceived negligence led him to resort to issuing this extreme threat to grab attention, as stated in the video that has since circulated online.

On Friday evening, police arrived at his residence to effect the arrest. However, Sunit barricaded himself inside and began firing shots from the third floor, threatening to take his own life if approached. After an extended, tense standoff lasting almost an hour, officers subdued and arrested him, seizing a pistol along with live ammunition from his possession.

Local residents characterize Sunit as having been under significant mental distress. Many noted he had expressed his grievances loudly, and his behavior had reportedly become increasingly erratic in recent months. “He often spoke about his personal issues and seemed troubled,” said one neighbor who wished to remain anonymous.

The alarming video quickly spread across social media platforms, which accelerated law enforcement’s response. Investigators are now delving into how Sunit acquired the weapon as well as his underlying motives for the threat.

A case against Sunit includes serious charges such as criminal intimidation, incitement to violence, and illegal possession of arms. Police confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to explore all aspects of the situation.

As incidents of threats against public officials rise, citizens and law enforcement remain vigilant, emphasizing the need for mental health awareness and support systems to prevent such alarming cases in the future.
