peaking at the launch of author G B Deglurkar’s book, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized the systematic efforts by the British post-1857 to erode Indians’ faith in their traditions and ancestors. Bhagwat underscored that India’s traditions, including idol worship, hold profound significance beyond mere physical form.
Bhagwat asserted, “There is blind faith, but faith is never blind.” He acknowledged that while some customs may require reconsideration, many are deeply rooted beliefs. He praised India’s idol worship tradition, noting its symbolic connection to the formless through tangible representations.
Elaborating on the significance of idols, Bhagwat highlighted the emotional expressiveness found in Indian idols, distinguishing them globally. He explained, “The idols of demons depict a tight grasp, symbolizing control and possessiveness. Conversely, idols of Gods, like those holding lotuses, symbolize a nurturing and detached approach.”
Bhagwat stressed the scientific and spiritual insights behind idol worship, noting its role in facilitating gradual spiritual progression towards understanding the formless.
