Defence and Home Ministers Brief PM Modi on Jammu Region’s Security Challenges

JAMMU, July 18 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi Chairs CCS Meeting on Security Situation in Jammu and Kashmir

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, convened today to review the escalating security concerns in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly focusing on the surge in terrorist activities in the Jammu region over recent weeks.

Attending the meeting were key CCS members including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, among others. The Defence and Home Ministers briefed the Prime Minister on the prevailing security dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of the Army, paramilitary forces, and police to neutralize terrorists and dismantle their support networks.

Prime Minister Modi has maintained continuous engagement with relevant ministries and senior officials regarding the evolving situation in the Jammu region. Just yesterday, Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi briefed the Prime Minister and Home Minister on ongoing operations, including measures to thwart infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC).

Earlier, Gen Dwivedi, assuming office on June 30, conducted visits to forward areas in Poonch and Rajouri districts, underscoring strategic assessments with senior Army commanders.

Sources indicate that the Prime Minister directed full deployment of armed forces’ counter-terror capabilities following recent attacks that claimed the lives of five Army personnel in Kathua district’s Billawar area.

Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified operations against heightened terrorist activities, resulting in multiple arrests of suspected collaborators. Concurrently, significant troop movements and search operations are underway based on actionable intelligence.

Efforts to curb infiltration from the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Punjab sectors have been prioritized. Security forces remain vigilant in mountainous terrains to bolster anti-terror operations and restore public confidence.

The CCS meeting underscores the Government’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding national security amidst escalating challenges in the region
