PM Modi to Unveil and Launch Projects Worth Rs 29,400 Crore in Mumbai Today

Mumbai : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Mumbai on Saturday to launch and lay the foundation stones for several significant infrastructure projects in the road, railways, and ports sectors. The projects, worth more than Rs 29,400 crore, will be inaugurated at a function at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon.

Modi will lay the foundation stones for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) Thane-Borivali twin tunnels and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project. The 11.8 km-long Thane-Borivali tunnel, costing Rs 16,600 crore, is expected to reduce travel time between Thane and Borivali by one hour.

Additionally, Modi will lay the foundation stone for the tunnel work at the GMLR project, worth over Rs 6,300 crore. The 6.65 km-long GMLR will provide direct connectivity between the Western suburbs and the new proposed airport at Navi Mumbai and the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. A BMC official stated that the twin tunnels of the GMLR project will connect the Western Express Highway at Goregaon to the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, reducing travel time from 75 minutes to just 25 minutes.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the Kalyan Yard Remodelling and the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai. The remodelling will increase the yard’s capacity to handle more trains, reducing congestion and improving operational efficiency. The Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal will enhance capacity for handling cement and other commodities while creating job opportunities in the region.

Modi will dedicate to the nation new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) that can accommodate longer trains, improving the station’s capacity to handle increased traffic. He will also extend platforms 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to facilitate the running of 24-coach trains, thereby increasing ridership.

The Prime Minister will launch the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, an internship programme aimed at addressing unemployment by providing opportunities for skill enhancement and industry exposure for youth aged 18 to 30.

Finally, Modi will visit the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) Secretariat at Bandra Kurla Complex to inaugurate the INS Towers.
