Duo Arrested in Ladakh for Smuggling Gold Worth Crores from China

In a significant bust, two individuals have been arrested in the Nyoma sector of Leh district, Ladakh, for smuggling several kilograms of gold from China.

Authorities revealed on Wednesday that gold valued at several crores of rupees was found stored in a house in Koyul village, near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

The seizure was conducted by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and local police, acting on intelligence inputs. The arrested individuals were identified as Stanzin Dorgyal and Tsering Chamba.

The duo allegedly smuggled the gold and kept it in their home. The locally stationed Army Brigade, part of the 15 Sector, received information about the smuggling and alerted the 21 Battalion of the ITBP, leading to the arrests.

The seized gold has been transferred to the ITBP headquarters in Leh. Officials confirmed that the operation was intelligence-based.
