Bangladesh : Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi held discussions with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka to discuss bilateral ties, focusing on defense cooperation. During their meeting on Tuesday, Prime Minister Hasina expressed appreciation for India’s significant role in Bangladesh’s War of Liberation in 1971.
“Adm Dinesh K Tripathi CNS, on an official visit to Bangladesh, called on HE Sheikh Hasina, Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh on #02Jul 24. During discussions, the PM of Bangladesh recalled & appreciated India’s contribution to Bangladesh’s War of Liberation in 1971,” the Indian Navy said in a post on X later. “(The) CNS apprised the PM regarding the progress of ongoing bilateral maritime engagements between the Indian Navy & the Bangladesh Navy,” the Navy added.
Prime Minister Hasina praised the India-Bangladesh relationship as a model for others, citing successful dialogues that have resolved issues such as land and maritime boundaries between the two countries.
Admiral Tripathi’s four-day official visit aims to strengthen defense relations and explore new avenues for naval cooperation between India and Bangladesh.
India and Bangladesh share deep historical, linguistic, and cultural ties, reflecting a robust bilateral partnership founded on principles of sovereignty, equality, trust, and mutual understanding that transcend mere strategic alliances, the Navy emphasized.
