Modi Highlights Opposition Frustration Over Non-Congress Leader’s Third Term as PM

NEW DELHI, July 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed NDA MPs on Tuesday, urging them to adhere to parliamentary rules and learn from senior members about best practices. This comes a day after the ruling alliance accused Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of delivering a “most irresponsible” speech.

During the meeting, Modi pointed out that the opposition is discontented because, for the first time, a non-Congress leader has secured the prime ministership for a third consecutive term. According to sources, Modi encouraged MPs to diligently study parliamentary issues, attend sessions regularly, and effectively address constituency matters.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, briefing reporters, mentioned that Modi did not explicitly reference Gandhi’s speech from Monday. However, Rijiju emphasized that the prime minister’s messages are universal and pertinent to all MPs. Gandhi’s speech in the Lok Sabha had accused BJP leaders of dividing the populace on communal lines, which sparked significant protests from the treasury benches. In response, Prime Minister Modi criticized Gandhi for labeling the entire Hindu community as violent.

At the NDA meeting, Modi was felicitated by alliance leaders in recognition of his “historic” third term, added Rijiju. Sources indicate that Modi advised MPs to thoroughly research any issue before commenting publicly. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining close ties with their constituencies and expressing gratitude to voters for their continued support.

Furthermore, Modi encouraged MPs to visit the Prime Ministers Museum, which documents the life journeys of all Indian prime ministers, a task that previous governments had not undertaken. This initiative underscores the importance of understanding and appreciating the contributions of past leaders, fostering a sense of continuity and respect for the office.

In his address, Modi reiterated the need for MPs to embody the principles of effective governance, ensuring that their actions and statements are well-informed and reflective of their responsibilities to the electorate. By emphasizing the significance of parliamentary decorum and constituency engagement, Modi aims to strengthen the NDA’s legislative efficacy and public rapport.
