New Delhi, July 2: Chief Justice DY Chandrachud underscored the importance of a just and inclusive judicial system as he laid the foundation stone for new court buildings in Karkardooma, Shastri Park, and Rohini (Sector 26) on Tuesday in New Delhi. Speaking at the event, he highlighted that the judiciary must uphold justice and equality as fundamental principles guiding its approach to cases.
“Court buildings are not merely structures of bricks and concrete; they embody hope. Every case brought before us carries the hope for justice,” Chief Justice Chandrachud remarked. He emphasized that investing in the safety, accessibility, and comfort of judges, lawyers, and litigants contributes to building a fair and inclusive judicial system.
“Our legal and constitutional system is built on the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. The district judiciary plays a crucial role in upholding these virtues,” he added.
Addressing the significance of laying the foundation stone, Chief Justice Chandrachud likened it to setting the direction and structure of the court buildings, which will expand capacity, reduce case backlogs, and provide a dignified environment for all stakeholders seeking justice.
“These buildings are dedicated to the citizens, providing a space where justice can be sought with dignity,” he affirmed. The Chief Justice extended congratulations to the High Court, the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, architects, and all involved in the project.
The event was attended by Supreme Court Judge Seema Kohli, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, Delhi Minister Atishi, and several other dignitaries from the judiciary.
