New Delhi, Jul 1 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended his greetings to former vice president M. Venkaiah Naidu on his 75th birthday, praising his dedication, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to public service.
In an article he shared, Modi highlighted Naidu’s exceptional ability to navigate the complexities of Indian politics with ease and humility. “I hope young karyakartas, elected representatives, and all those who have a passion to serve learn from his life. It is people like him who make our nation better and more vibrant,” Modi wrote.
Modi celebrated Naidu’s birthday as an occasion to honor a leader whose life showcases dedication, adaptability, and a steadfast commitment to public service. He praised Naidu’s eloquence, wit, and focus on developmental issues, which have earned him respect across party lines.
Reflecting on their long association, Modi said he had learned a lot from Naidu and lauded his ideological commitment. Naidu’s political journey began with student activism in Andhra Pradesh, where his talent, oratory, and organizational skills could have taken him to any political party. However, Naidu chose to work with the Sangh Parivar, inspired by the “Nation First” vision. He was associated with the RSS, ABVP, and later strengthened the Jana Sangh and the BJP.
The prime minister also highlighted Naidu’s role in the anti-Emergency movement and the agitation against the dismissal of N.T. Ramarao’s government in Andhra Pradesh. Modi noted that Naidu, known for his witty wordplay, is also a dedicated worker.
“No less than a stalwart like NTR recognized his talent and wanted him to join his party, but Venkaiah garu refused to deviate from his core ideology. He led the party on the floor of the Assembly and became the AP BJP president,” Modi said.
In 2000, when then-prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee wanted to induct Naidu into his government, Naidu chose the Ministry of Rural Development, reflecting his deep connection to his roots as a “kisan putra” (farmer’s son) and his interest in rural development.
As vice president, Naidu undertook various initiatives that enhanced the dignity of his office and served as an outstanding chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, ensuring opportunities for young, female, and first-time MPs to speak. Modi recalled that Naidu was in the Chair when the decision to remove Articles 370 and 35(A) was placed before the Rajya Sabha, calling it an emotional moment for him as it fulfilled Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s dream of a united India.
Modi concluded by expressing his admiration for Naidu’s dedication and service, wishing him a happy 75th birthday.
