Washington, Jun 26 : US Ambassador Eric Garcetti expressed optimism about progress in defense partnerships, critical emerging technologies, and economic prosperity between the US and India during Modi 3.0. Congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP on their successful election, Garcetti emphasized the potential to turn bilateral dreams into reality during this term.
“In Modi 3.0, it’s time for us to take our dreams and make them reality,” Garcetti said in an interview with PTI, marking the first statement by a senior Biden Administration official following India’s recent general elections, which saw Modi re-elected for a historic third term.
Highlighting areas of collaboration, Garcetti mentioned defense partnerships, emerging technologies, and economic growth, envisioning an ambitious India working with an ambitious America. He underscored the importance of the US-India relationship in promoting democracy and a free Indo-Pacific region.
Reflecting on Modi’s previous term, Garcetti noted significant achievements such as state visits, agreements spanning various sectors from space to health, and the resolution of past conflicts to advance mutual ambitions.
Currently in Washington DC for the Select USA Summit, where India has the largest delegation, Garcetti will also address the US-India Aviation Summit, marking the first such event in seven years.
Regarding India’s recent elections, Garcetti praised the country’s democratic process and expressed admiration for the logistical efforts involved in conducting the world’s largest democratic exercise. He reaffirmed the strong partnership between the US and India, emphasizing continuity in bilateral relations despite electoral processes in both countries.
Describing his ambassadorship to India as the “best job in the world,” Garcetti highlighted the warmth and hospitality extended to him by the Indian people. He emphasized the broader scope of US-India relations beyond government-to-government interactions, noting the impact of collaborations in areas such as multilateral engagements and global leadership.
Garcetti concluded by expressing his admiration for India’s diversity and democracy, praising its progress in infrastructure development and integration into the global economy. He highlighted India’s role in international affairs, including efforts in maritime security and vaccine manufacturing, underscoring India’s evolving global influence while preserving its unique cultural identity.
