Srinagar, June 20 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Srinagar on Thursday for a two-day visit, marking his first trip to Jammu and Kashmir since assuming office for his third term. His visit will highlight the International Yoga Day celebrations and involve significant developmental activities.
The prime minister will participate in the ‘Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K’ event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on Thursday. He will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects in the region worth over Rs 1,500 crore. Additionally, he will launch the Competitiveness Improvement in Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project (JKCIP), valued at Rs 1,800 crore.
On June 21, Prime Minister Modi will lead the 10th International Day of Yoga event at SKICC in Srinagar. Scheduled to start around 6:30 AM, he will address the gathering and participate in the CYP Yoga session.
Stringent multi-layer security measures have been implemented for the Prime Minister’s visit. Over 7,000 participants will join him in performing yoga on Friday at the scenic Dal Lake. The participants have undergone three days of training in the yoga ‘Asanas’ to be performed alongside the prime minister.
Security forces have been deployed extensively across Srinagar to ensure the visit proceeds without incident. Roads leading to the SKICC have been sealed, and a thorough sanitization operation of the venue was completed on Tuesday. Background security checks have been conducted on all officials, security personnel, and attendees involved in the event.
As part of the security arrangements, Srinagar Police have declared the city a ‘Temporary Red Zone’ for drone and quadcopter operations. Unauthorized drone activities within this zone will be penalized according to the Drone Rules, 2021.
In the lead-up to the main event, various yoga activities have been held throughout the city and the valley. Notable events include a yoga session near the iconic clock tower at Lal Chowk and a mega yoga camp at Polo Ground on Wednesday. Another event took place at the SKICC, with similar activities occurring at multiple locations across the valley to celebrate the 10th International Yoga Day.
