SRINAGAR, June 19: More than 7,000 people from various walks of life will join Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday to celebrate the 10th International Yoga Day on the banks of the famous Dal Lake in Jammu and Kashmir. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced that the prime minister’s presence is a significant honor for the entire Kashmir valley.
“It’s an honor for the whole valley to have Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on International Yoga Day. He will perform Yoga on the banks of Dal Lake with more than 7,000 participants on June 21,” Sinha stated.
The LG emphasized the prime minister’s special connection with Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting this as a reason for choosing Srinagar to celebrate the milestone Yoga Day.
“In the past 10 years, Yoga has gained recognition both nationally and internationally, with more than 23.5 crore people having participated in the event so far. In Jammu and Kashmir alone, 23 lakh people participated in Yoga Day last year, and the number of people practicing yoga daily is increasing. Yoga is becoming a preferred choice for a stress-free life,” Sinha remarked.
Reflecting on PM Modi’s rapport with the people of Kashmir, Sinha noted the strong bond witnessed during Modi’s public meeting at Bakshi Stadium in March this year. “I don’t believe there’s a distance between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and PM Modi. When he gave a speech at Bakshi Stadium, a sea of people came to witness the historic moment, showing their attachment to him. If some believe there is a distance, that’s their perception. Our PM remains connected with locals through various means, appreciating their achievements and contributions to the economy,” he added.
Regarding the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, Sinha assured that the administration is prepared for all religious festivals and events across communities. “We have made special arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra. Muharram is also approaching, and we will ensure everything is in place,” he said.
Sinha highlighted the positive impact of the successful G20 summit on tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. “The summit has boosted tourist influx, and I see this event as an opportunity to attract even more tourists. Yoga promotes a happy and healthy life, sending a message that peaceful living is essential,” he said.
The LG also mentioned the increase in foreign tourists post-G20 summit. “There has been more than a 2.5% increase in foreign tourists. Many nations have lifted travel bans to Kashmir, and I believe after International Yoga Day, others will follow,” he said.
Sinha concluded by expressing confidence that Kashmir will gain global recognition and praised the high voter turnout in the recent Lok Sabha polls, showcasing Kashmir’s commitment to the democratic process. “The peaceful celebration of Yoga Day in Kashmir will further promote the region,” he added.
