Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, after assuming office for his second consecutive term, outlined the government’s vision for the next five years, emphasizing the strengthening of national security through modernization of the armed forces and boosting domestic defence manufacturing. Singh expressed confidence in the preparedness of the armed forces to face any challenge and commended their dedication in safeguarding the nation’s unity and sovereignty, particularly amidst ongoing border tensions with China in eastern Ladakh.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Singh affirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the country’s security apparatus, with a key focus on achieving self-reliance in defence manufacturing. He underscored that armed forces modernization and the welfare of both serving and retired soldiers remain top priorities.
Singh also highlighted the Government’s aim to increase defence exports substantially, setting a target of surpassing Rs 50,000 crore by 2028-2029, building upon the record export figures achieved in the previous fiscal year.
Upon assuming office, Singh chaired a meeting to discuss the Ministry’s first 100 days’ action plan, with a particular emphasis on addressing issues related to the welfare of veterans under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare. He urged officers to rededicate themselves to fulfilling the agenda outlined in the action plan.
