JAMMU: Tragedy struck in the region as a CRPF jawan laid down his life while six other security personnel sustained injuries in two separate encounters with terrorists overnight in Kathua and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
In Doda district, five troopers of the Rashtriya Rifles and a special police officer (SPO) were wounded when terrorists launched an attack on a joint check post located in the upper reaches of Chattergalla on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot road.
Meanwhile, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan Kabir Dass succumbed to critical injuries sustained during a confrontation with a terrorist holed up in Kathua district’s Saida Sukhal village around 3 am. The assailant initiated indiscriminate firing to disrupt the security cordon in the village, situated over 60 kilometers from the city.
The incident occurred shortly after terrorists targeted the village near the International Border on Tuesday evening, injuring a civilian. Subsequent search operations led to the elimination of one terrorist, while efforts are underway to neutralize the other who is believed to have infiltrated from across the border.
Senior police officials, including the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), are overseeing the operations on the ground. The affected areas have been cordoned off, and intensive house-to-house searches are being conducted with the assistance of CRPF personnel.
These confrontations come in the wake of a recent terrorist attack on a bus transporting pilgrims from the Shiv Khori temple to Katra, which resulted in casualties and injuries.
In Doda, terrorists engaged in a fierce gunfight with security forces after firing on a joint check post of the 4 Rashtriya Rifles and police at Chattergalla area late on Tuesday night. The injured personnel have been hospitalized, and additional reinforcements have been deployed to intensify the ongoing operations against the militants.
ADGP (Jammu zone) Anand Jain provided insights into the incident in Kathua’s Saida Sukhal village, stating that two terrorists, suspected to have recently infiltrated, appeared in the village seeking water from a household. Upon receiving information, a police team swiftly responded to the situation. One of the terrorists was killed in the ensuing exchange of fire, while the search continues for the other assailant. Recovered from the slain terrorist were an assault rifle and a rucksack, with efforts underway to ascertain his identity and group affiliation.
The security forces remain vigilant, determined to thwart any attempts by anti-social elements to disrupt peace and stability in the region.
Stay tuned for further updates as the situation unfolds.
