New Delhi, Jun 11: The Supreme Court has requested the National Testing Agency (NTA) to respond to a petition calling for a fresh conduct of the NEET-UG medical entrance exam for the year 2024, citing alleged instances of question paper leaks and other malpractices. A vacation bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah declined to halt the counseling process for successful NEET-UG candidates seeking admission to MBBS, BDS, and other related courses.
NEET-UG 2024 took place on May 5, with results announced on June 4, slightly ahead of the scheduled date of June 14. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) is conducted by the NTA for admissions to various medical and dental courses in both government and private institutions nationwide.
The apex court has associated the plea, filed by Shivangi Mishra and others, with a pending case and has instructed the NTA to provide a response in due course. The petition highlights concerns of malpractices during NEET-UG 2024, pointing to instances of alleged paper leaks. It asserts that such breaches are in violation of Article 14 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to equality, as they unfairly advantage certain candidates over others who undertake the exam in a legitimate manner.
