In the aftermath of the tragic terror attack that claimed the lives of nine pilgrims in Reasi district, the Jammu and Kashmir police have revealed that at least two terrorists were involved in the assault. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohita Sharma confirmed that eyewitness accounts have identified two assailants, prompting a massive combing operation in the area.
“At present, our investigations indicate the presence of two terrorists. We have deployed five teams to scour the vicinity,” stated SSP Mohita Sharma. The attack, which occurred around 6:10 pm on Sunday, saw militants open fire on a bus, resulting in the deaths of nine individuals and leaving 33 others injured.
Recounting the harrowing ordeal, former Sarpanch Bhushan Uppal described how the assailants relentlessly fired upon the bus for approximately 15-20 minutes, fatally wounding the driver and causing the vehicle to veer off the road. Prompt action by locals helped rescue passengers from the targeted bus amidst the chaos.
The Indian Army and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have mobilized resources to aid in the search operation. Drones have been deployed to survey the dense forest areas surrounding the incident site, enhancing the scope of the search efforts.
According to officials, the targeted bus was en route from the Shiv Khori shrine to Katra when it came under attack near the Pouni area of Reasi district, adjacent to Rajouri district. The assailants’ gunfire forced the driver to lose control, leading to the bus plunging into a gorge.
