**NEW YORK, June 8:** American tech billionaire Elon Musk has expressed his anticipation for his companies to embark on “exciting work” in India, as he extends congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his historic election victory.
Modi is set to take the oath of office for his third consecutive term as Prime Minister on June 9.
“Congratulations @narendramodi on your victory in the world’s largest democratic elections! Looking forward to my companies doing exciting work in India,” Musk, 52, stated in a post on X on Friday.
This message of congratulations comes after Musk postponed his proposed visit to India in April due to “very heavy Tesla obligations.” Originally scheduled to be in India on April 21 and 22 to meet with Prime Minister Modi, Musk later expressed his intent to visit later in the year.
In June of the previous year, Musk met with Modi during the latter’s US visit, expressing his plans to visit India in 2024 and his confidence in Tesla’s imminent entry into the Indian market.
Musk’s proposed visit had raised expectations for potential announcements regarding Tesla’s presence in India, including plans for manufacturing units and investments potentially amounting to billions of dollars. Additionally, there was anticipation for announcements regarding Tesla’s electric car sales in India and the prospects for Musk’s satellite internet venture, Starlink.
Musk had previously sought import duty reductions in India to facilitate Tesla’s entry into the market.
His plans to visit India in April coincided with the government’s announcement of a new electric vehicle policy, offering import duty concessions to companies investing a minimum of USD 500 million in setting up manufacturing units in the country, aimed at attracting major global players like Tesla.
