SRINAGAR, June 5: Parts of the Kashmir Valley experienced light showers, with forecasts predicting scattered light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in some areas until June 7, officials reported.
A meteorological department official noted that in the past 24 hours until 8:30 a.m. today, Srinagar received 0.4mm of rainfall, Pahalgam 2.8mm, Kupwara 5.1mm, and Gulmarg 7.8mm. The official indicated that many areas could see rain and thunderstorms, with moderate to intense showers in some places for brief periods until June 7. Thunder and lightning, accompanied by gusty winds, are also possible during this time.
Farmers have been advised to suspend agricultural operations until June 6 due to the weather conditions. Light rain and thunderstorms are expected in a few places on June 8, with partly cloudy to generally dry weather predicted from June 9 to June 15.
Regarding temperatures, Srinagar recorded a low of 12.6°C, down from 14.8°C the previous night, which is 0.8°C below normal for this time of year. Qazigund recorded a minimum of 11.0°C, down from 12.2°C, which is 1.0°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 7.5°C, down from 8.1°C, but it was 0.5°C above normal for this famous resort in south Kashmir. Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 9.5°C, down from 12.8°C, which is 2.7°C below normal.
Kupwara town recorded a minimum of 11.3°C, down from 11.7°C, which is 0.4°C below normal. Gulmarg recorded a minimum of 4.6°C, significantly down from 10.6°C, which is 4.1°C below normal for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
In contrast, Jammu recorded a low of 30.5°C, up from 23.7°C the previous night, which is 4.8°C above normal for the winter capital of J&K. Banihal recorded a low of 13.4°C, Batote 17.6°C, and Bhaderwah 15.2°C.
