SRINAGAR, June 4: Omar Abdullah, the Vice President of the National Conference (NC), expressed optimism about securing victory in the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat, despite trailing behind Independent candidate Sheikh Abdul Rashid by 25,000 votes in the initial trends.
Addressing reporters in Srinagar on Tuesday, Abdullah acknowledged the fluctuating nature of electoral trends, stating, “There will be ups and downs but the final results will be in our favour.”
Responding to queries regarding the reliability of exit polls, Abdullah highlighted the historical inaccuracies associated with such predictions. He noted, “Exit polls have been wrong in the past as well but right also sometimes. While we are hopeful, we have apprehensions also that all the exit polls cannot be wrong.”
Expressing skepticism about the unanimity of exit poll results, Abdullah remarked, “There can be minor differences but all exit polls are saying one thing only. It will be something extraordinary to hope that all of them are wrong. Everything will be clear by 1 or 2 pm.”
The majority of exit polls have forecasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continuation in power for a third consecutive term, with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) anticipated to secure a significant majority in the Lok Sabha polls.
While some exit polls have projected the NDA to garner over 400 seats, the consensus suggests a victory tally exceeding 350 seats, well beyond the majority mark of 272 seats required to form the government.
