New Delhi : Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, announced on Friday that he would voluntarily return to jail on June 2, following the conclusion of his interim bail granted by the Supreme Court until June 1. In an impassioned message shared on X, Kejriwal stated that his incarceration was a stand against dictatorship, emphasizing his determination not to yield even if subjected to harassment.
Expressing unwavering resolve, Kejriwal affirmed, “Tomorrow the 21 days are getting over, the day after tomorrow I have to surrender. I don’t know how long they will keep me in jail this time. But my spirits are high. I am going to jail to save the country from dictatorship. I am proud of this.” Reflecting on past challenges, he highlighted attempts to break his spirit during previous detentions but remained steadfast in his commitment.
Granted interim bail for Lok Sabha election campaigning, Kejriwal utilized his release to campaign across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, and Maharashtra. Recalling the hardships endured in jail, including the denial of medication resulting in a significant weight loss, Kejriwal underscored the need for medical attention post-release.
Kejriwal disclosed his plan to surrender at Tihar jail around 3 pm on Sunday, assuring the continuation of public service initiatives, such as the provision of a monthly honorarium of Rs 1,000 to women. Reaffirming his dedication to the welfare of Delhi’s residents, he promised uninterrupted access to essential services like free electricity, healthcare, and transportation.
In a heartfelt appeal, Kejriwal requested prayers for his ailing parents, stressing their advanced age and fragile health. Expressing gratitude for the collective resistance against authoritarianism, he urged supporters not to despair, relying on their prayers for strength and protection.
Kejriwal concluded with a hopeful note, expressing confidence in a swift return and attributing his resilience to the support and blessings of the people.
