The revered Shree Machail Yatra has begun with devotees flocking to the shrine nestled amidst the picturesque Machail area of Paddar Sub Division in Kishtwar district.
Marking the auspicious occasion, the opening of the Kappat (Door) at the Shree Chandi Mata Temple during the Baisakhi celebrations heralds the commencement of one of the most significant pilgrimages in the Jammu Division, second only to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra.
In recent years, the popularity of the Shree Machail Yatra has surged, with over 2 lakh pilgrims visiting last year alone. The pilgrimage season witnesses a gradual increase in pilgrim numbers, culminating in the grand holy mace (Chhari) procession in August.
This year, despite initial snowfall in April, the weather at Machail Bhawan is clearing up, promising a smooth and comfortable journey for devotees.
Efforts led by Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, in collaboration with the district and local administrations of Kishtwar, aim to ensure comprehensive arrangements for pilgrims. Initial arrangements include meal services at Aora Langer near Bhawan Machail, with additional langars to be established in the coming days. Accommodation facilities such as Yatri Bhawan and Sapphire Guest House, along with various tent accommodations, are also available for pilgrims’ comfort.
With an expected footfall exceeding 3 lakh this year, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Dr. Devansh Yadav, has directed Stakeholder Departments to expedite infrastructure projects. These initiatives include enhancing facilities at Yatri Bhawan in Gulabgarh, road upgrades, improved water supply, sanitation facilities, and enhanced security measures to ensure a safe and pleasant journey for pilgrims.
Infrastructure enhancements along the Gulabgarh to Machail axis, including new roads, bridges, and repairs, aim to provide a safer and more convenient journey amid challenging terrain. Additionally, plans are in place to offer helicopter services from Gulabgarh to Machail, enhancing the comfort of the spiritual journey.
Dr. Devansh Yadav has encouraged pilgrims to stay informed about the Machail Yatra through the official website https://shrimachailmatayatra.com. The website offers detailed information on the Yatra, including weather conditions, routes, and available facilities, ensuring pilgrims have access to essential information and assistance.
