Five-Year-Old Murder Case of Temple Priest Solved: Main Accused Arrested

Jammu, May 28 – The Jammu and Kashmir Police announced on Tuesday the resolution of a five-year-old murder case involving a temple priest, with the arrest of the main accused from Haryana.

Baba Pragat Nath, a 65-year-old resident of Uttar Pradesh, was discovered dead with head injuries inside a temple in Toph Sherkhania on the intervening night of November 15 and 16, 2019.

Following the murder, a case was registered at the Bakshi Nagar police station, triggering an extensive investigation. The probe implicated two notorious criminals, Tarlok Singh from Uttar Pradesh and Ashish Kumar alias Hansai Nath from southwest Delhi.

Both accused fled after the murder, with subsequent information revealing Singh’s demise. Nevertheless, law enforcement agencies persisted in their efforts to apprehend Kumar. Ultimately, a special team from Bakshi Nagar police station succeeded in arresting Kumar from Haryana’s Jind district.

Investigations disclosed that Singh and Kumar were part of a criminal gang operating across states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, engaging in various illegal activities, including theft, cheating, and murder.

Following Kumar’s arrest, all requisite legal formalities were completed, and a charge sheet in the case was filed.
