Srinagar, May 27: Night temperatures remained above normal across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with meteorologists forecasting another dry and hot day on Monday.
A meteorological department official stated that generally dry weather is expected until May 28, although there could be isolated thundershowers. From May 29-31, partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain and thunderstorms is anticipated in isolated areas during the afternoon.
Overall, no significant weather activity is expected until the end of the month. “A heatwave is likely to affect the plains of the Jammu and Kashmir divisions, with hot and dry weather in the hilly districts over the next two days,” the official said, advising people to avoid heat exposure and stay hydrated.
In Srinagar, the night temperature remained above normal, recording a low of 15.6°C compared to 15.1°C the previous night, which is 3.6°C above the average for this time of year. Qazigund recorded a minimum of 12.4°C, slightly lower than the previous night’s 12.6°C, but still 1.7°C above normal.
Pahalgam saw a low of 7.7°C against 8.3°C the previous night, 1.6°C above normal for this popular resort in south Kashmir. Kokernag recorded a minimum of 13.6°C compared to 13.2°C previously, 3.0°C above normal.
Kupwara town had a minimum temperature of 12.0°C, up from 11.5°C, and 1.4°C above normal. Gulmarg recorded a low of 11.2°C against 11.0°C the previous night, 4.1°C above normal for the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
In Jammu, the temperature dropped slightly to 24.7°C from 24.5°C the previous night, which is 0.2°C below normal for the winter capital of J&K. Other recorded lows include Banihal at 15.2°C, Batote at 19.0°C, and Bhaderwah at 15.6°C.
