Adani’s Mundra Port Welcomes India’s Largest Ever Container Ship

Mundra Port, the flagship of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), has achieved yet another milestone by hosting the largest container ship ever to call at an Indian port, the company announced on Sunday.

The vessel, MSC Anna, boasts an impressive length of 399.98 meters, equivalent to approximately four football fields. With a capacity to carry 19,200 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), it ranks among the largest container ships worldwide.

In a statement, the company emphasized the significance of MSC Anna’s arrival at Mundra Port, highlighting the port’s ability to handle mega ships and its pivotal role in bolstering India’s maritime trade capabilities. Notably, the vessel’s arrival draft of 16.3 meters underscores the exclusive capability of Adani Ports, Mundra, as no other port in India can accommodate such deep-draft vessels.

During its stay, Mundra Port is expected to handle an exchange of 12,500 TEUs, demonstrating its efficient management of large-scale cargo operations.

This achievement follows Mundra Port’s previous record-setting milestones, including the berthing of MV MSC Hamburg, one of the world’s longest container ships, in July 2023. Additionally, in October of the same year, Mundra Port became the first in India to handle 16 MMT cargo in a single month.

As APSEZ continues to expand and enhance its facilities, Mundra Port is poised to play an increasingly significant role in the global shipping and logistics landscape, affirmed the company.
