The meteorological department has forecasted that the prevailing “heat wave” over the plains of Jammu and Kashmir is expected to persist for the next six days. According to officials, dry weather conditions are likely to prevail from May 23-28, although isolated thundershower activity cannot be completely ruled out during this period.
From May 29-31, the weather is anticipated to be partly to generally cloudy with chances of light rain and thunder at isolated places. Overall, no significant weather disturbances are expected until May 31, with the heat wave forecasted to continue over the plains of both Jammu and Kashmir divisions during this period.
Even hilly districts are expected to experience hot and dry weather over the next six days. The weather department has advised people, especially vulnerable individuals such as the elderly, infants, and children, to avoid heat exposure and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.
Meanwhile, night temperatures are on the rise, with Srinagar recording a low of 15.0°C, Qazigund at 11.8°C, Pahalgam at 7.7°C, Kokernag at 12.3°C, Kupwara at 11.5°C, and Gulmarg at 11.0°C. In Jammu, the temperature dropped to 29.1°C. Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah recorded lows of 15.2°C, 18.4°C, and 15.8°C respectively.
