Omar Abdullah Criticizes Postponement of Anantnag-Rajouri Polls, Alleges Political Interference

Former Chief Minister and National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah voiced his concerns regarding the deferment of polls in the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency, attributing the decision to the recent visit of Home Minister Amit Shah to Kashmir.

Addressing an election rally in Aishmuqam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Abdullah expressed suspicions about the intentions behind the postponement, alleging that it was orchestrated to harm National Conference candidate Mian Altaf.

Castigating the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for its past alliance with the BJP in 2014, Abdullah lamented the repercussions faced by the state due to this alignment, emphasizing that such challenges could have been avoided if the PDP had joined hands with the National Conference.

Abdullah recalled offering unconditional support to the PDP during his interaction with late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, highlighting the National Conference’s stance against the BJP’s involvement in state governance.

The former Chief Minister criticized PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti for her recent remarks regarding Mian Altaf, labeling them as hypocritical considering her own electoral history.

Abdullah underscored the significance of past decisions in shaping the current political landscape, particularly condemning the formation of the PDP-BJP government as a precursor to the revocation of Article 370.

This statement from Abdullah sheds light on the ongoing political dynamics in Kashmir, highlighting the contentious issues surrounding electoral processes and party alignments
