Indian Army Vice Chief Upendra Dwivedi’s Visit to Army Training Command Headquarters

Shimla (HP), May 16: Indian Army Vice Chief, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, paid a visit to the Army Training Command headquarters in Shimla, where he received a comprehensive briefing on training initiatives aimed at aligning Indian Army training requirements with the evolving operational landscape.

During his visit, Lt Gen Dwivedi emphasized the importance of jointness, integration, and self-reliance. He urged the Army Training Command (Vice Chief) to continuously review training concepts for future applications. Additionally, he released a compendium of ARTRAC publications focusing on the contemporary strategic scenario.

Earlier, on May 7, the Vice Chief awarded the VCOAS Citation to commend exemplary performance, professionalism, and dedication to duty to certain units in New Delhi. Lt General Dwivedi applauded these units for their outstanding performance and encouraged them to maintain their pursuit of excellence across all domains.

In another engagement earlier this month, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, along with ADG Major General CS Mann and other senior army officials, visited the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur). The visit facilitated in-depth discussions between Army officials and IIT Kanpur faculty members, who possess expertise in defense-related domains. These discussions explored potential collaborations to develop specific technology solutions tailored for the Indian Army’s requirements.

During the visit, professors from IIT Kanpur showcased the institute’s research capabilities and ongoing defense projects. Sanjay Tandon, Director of DRDO Industry Academia CoE at IIT Kanpur, elaborated on the CoE’s mandate to establish a research ecosystem and foster collaborations in advanced technology areas for defense and security. He underscored the institute’s commitment to promoting industry-academia partnerships in critical domains.

Faculty members demonstrated various innovative technologies to the Army officials, including a substation inspection robot, a generator for precision guidance kits, high-altitude logistics, eVTOL solutions, quadruped and rotary robots, and kamikaze drones. Additionally, three startups founded at IIT Kanpur showcased their remarkable innovations, highlighting the institute’s role as a nexus for entrepreneurship and technology transfer. The Indian Army delegation also visited the C3i Hub and FlexE Center at IIT Kanpur during their visit.
