Srinagar, May 9: Night temperatures witnessed a rise in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday amidst forecasts of dry weather over the next 24 hours and the possibility of light rain in plains and snow over higher reaches from May 11 to 12.
According to a meteorological department official in Srinagar, the region can expect generally dry weather until May 10, with a chance of thunderstorms during the afternoon. However, from May 11 onwards, partly to generally cloudy weather is anticipated, accompanied by light rain and snow in higher reaches. The official advised farmers to suspend farm operations during May 11 and 12, with a possibility of moderate rain, particularly on May 12.
On May 13, partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain is expected at a few places, followed by generally dry weather from May 14 to 17.
Regarding temperatures, Srinagar recorded a low of 12.4°C, which was 1.7°C above normal for this time of year. Similarly, Qazigund recorded a minimum of 10.0°C, Pahalgam recorded 6.6°C, Kokernag recorded 10.8°C, and Kupwara recorded 8.8°C. Gulmarg, known for its skiing, recorded a minimum of 8.6°C, indicating a rise in temperature.
Meanwhile, Jammu recorded a low of 26.5°C, which was 3.5°C above normal for the city. Other areas like Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah also experienced varying temperatures, the official noted.
