Srinagar, May 02: In Srinagar, the night temperature dropped below normal as most places in Jammu and Kashmir experienced similar conditions on Thursday.
According to a meteorological department official in Srinagar, the city recorded a low of 5.7°C, compared to 7.1°C the previous night, marking a decrease. This reading was 4.0°C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir at this time of the year. Qazigund, another town in the region, recorded a minimum temperature of 3.6°C, lower than the 5.8°C recorded the previous night, with a deviation of 4.9°C from the normal temperature for this time of the year.
Pahalgam, a well-known resort in south Kashmir, experienced a low of 1.0°C, down from 2.7°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 3.7°C from the normal temperature. Similarly, Kokernag recorded a minimum of 4.4°C, compared to 3.5°C the previous night, indicating a deviation of 4.0°C from the normal temperature. Kupwara town recorded a minimum temperature of 4.7°C, down from 5.4°C the previous night, with a deviation of 3.7°C from the normal temperature.
In Gulmarg, the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the minimum temperature dropped to minus 0.2°C from minus 1.2°C the previous night, showing a deviation of 4.5°C from the normal temperature.
In Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the temperature dropped to 15.7°C from 16.1°C the previous night, indicating a deviation of 6.9°C below normal. Banihal recorded a low of 8.0°C, Batote 9.5°C, and Bhaderwah 6.1°C, according to the official.
Regarding the forecast, the official mentioned that generally dry weather with afternoon thundershower activity is expected in the next 24 hours. From May 3-4, partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain and thunder is anticipated at scattered places towards the evening. On May 5, generally dry weather with afternoon thundershower activity is likely at isolated places. Partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain and thunder is expected at few places on May 6-7. From May 8-10, generally dry weather with afternoon thundershower activity is expected at few places.
