JD(S) Suspends Prajwal Revanna Amid Sexual Assault Allegations

The JD(S) has suspended its incumbent MP from Hassan, Prajwal Revanna, following allegations of sexual assault, as the Congress intensified its criticism against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for endorsing him.

The decision to suspend Prajwal was made during a core committee meeting on Tuesday, attended by former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy.

Additionally, the party has issued a showcause notice to Revanna, who also serves as the NDA’s Lok Sabha candidate from Hassan. Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, faced allegations of sexual harassment on April 28, based on a complaint by his former cook.

The police have registered a case against Revanna under sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the IPC, covering charges of sexual harassment, intimidation, and outraging the dignity of a woman.

This development coincided with Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement affirming BJP’s support for the ‘matrushakti’ (women power) of the nation. Shah questioned the lack of action by the Congress government in Karnataka, emphasizing the state’s responsibility in handling the matter.

Shah criticized the Congress, asking why the government had not taken action despite being in power. He called on Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to inquire about the inaction from the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.
