New Delhi, Apr 29: Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed strong disapproval on Monday towards the reported INDIA bloc formula suggesting a rotational Prime Ministership, stating that such an approach does not align with the principles of effective governance. Shah emphasized that India has experienced the consequences of political instability over three decades and emphasized the importance of continuity and stability in leadership.
The INDIA alliance, however, has not yet put forth its candidate for the Prime Minister’s post in the upcoming 2024 general elections. Sources familiar with the negotiations have revealed discussions regarding power-sharing arrangements, including a proposal for a rotational Prime Ministership based on the number of Lok Sabha seats won by each party in the alliance.
Despite some challenges in seat-sharing negotiations, particularly in states like West Bengal, where the talks have hit roadblocks, and in Wayanad, where coalition members are contesting against each other, sources believe that these issues will be resolved if the INDIA alliance emerges victorious in the polls.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also criticized the INDIA bloc’s purported “one year one PM” formula, characterizing it as an attempt to auction the Prime Minister’s chair. He warned that such a system would diminish India’s standing on the global stage and invite ridicule from the international community.
As discussions and negotiations continue within the INDIA alliance, the prospect of a rotational Prime Ministership remains a topic of debate, with contrasting views on its feasibility and implications for effective governance.
