Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized the significance of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, portraying them as a critical step to safeguard democracy against authoritarian control as voting commenced for the second phase of the General Elections.
Kharge urged citizens to exercise their voting rights diligently, highlighting the profound impact of their votes on the future of India. He cautioned against being swayed by distractions and falsehoods, encouraging voters to prioritize justice, freedom, equality, and inclusive growth through transformative policies.
In a special welcome to first-time voters, Kharge recognized their pivotal role in shaping the democratic process, urging them to participate actively in this movement.
Similarly, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi emphasized the historic importance of the election, emphasizing that citizens’ votes would determine whether the government represents a select few billionaires or the entire population of 140 crore Indians.
Echoing these sentiments, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stressed the necessity of this election in defending democracy and the Constitution, calling for a high turnout to establish a government that truly serves the interests of the people.
The voting for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections covered 89 parliamentary constituencies across 13 States/Union Territories, with polling stations operating since 7 am.
