Jodhpur, Apr 1: Union Home Minister Amit Shah slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, asserting that Gandhi has no right to speak about democracy due to his grandmother’s actions during the Emergency. Shah made these remarks during an election rally in Jodhpur on Monday.
Shah responded to the recent ‘Loktantra Bachoa’ (save democracy) rally organized by the INDIA bloc parties at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. He confidently stated, “No matter how many parties you gather, only Modi is going to come” as prime minister post-elections.
Further, Shah emphasized that those involved in corruption will face legal consequences, reaffirming the public’s support for Narendra Modi to serve a third term as prime minister. He also expressed optimism that India will become the third-largest economy during Modi’s next term.
Shah’s comments followed a series of statements from INDIA bloc leaders urging people to defeat the BJP in order to safeguard democracy and the Constitution. They accused the government of resorting to “dictatorial” measures that hindered a fair playing field in the Lok Sabha elections.
Rahul Gandhi, in particular, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of attempting to manipulate the elections and warned against potential constitutional changes if the BJP secures victory through such means.
The public meeting aimed to highlight concerns over the alleged erosion of democracy, including accusations of misuse of government agencies against opposition leaders, such as the recent arrests of AAP chief Kejriwal and JMM leader Hemant Soren, as well as income tax notices issued to various political parties.
