Chandigarh, Mar 22 : Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar announced on Friday that a party delegation would approach the Election Commission to request an Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation into the state’s excise policy, which he alleges was modeled after the one in Delhi.
Jakhar claimed that the excise policy implemented in Punjab mirrors the one that led to the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to excise policy irregularities.
A high-powered BJP delegation is scheduled to meet with Election Commission officials on Saturday to formally demand the ED probe into the matter.
Jakhar criticized Kejriwal for not resigning immediately following his arrest, accusing him of prioritizing political power over accountability. He also accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of being “power hungry” and lacking internal trust.
Furthermore, Jakhar called on Congress leaders in Punjab, who previously advocated for an ED investigation into the excise policy, to join the BJP’s efforts in seeking accountability.
Highlighting the significance of Kejriwal’s arrest, Jakhar stated that the Delhi Chief Minister would be remembered as the first sitting chief minister to face imprisonment in connection with an excise policy case.
The arrest of Kejriwal has triggered widespread protests by AAP workers across various states, including Punjab, where the issue has sparked renewed political debate and scrutiny.
