Light to Moderate Rain and Snow Across Jammu and Kashmir in the Next 24 Hours, Says Meteorological Department

Srinagar, March 13: Meteorological officials announced on Wednesday that a western disturbance is poised to bring widespread light to moderate rain or snow across most areas of Jammu and Kashmir. The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar forecasts that this precipitation, accompanied by thunder, will prevail over the region for the next 24 hours.

Today’s weather is expected to be partially to generally cloudy, with widespread rain or snow anticipated in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir. However, from March 15 to March 20, the Meteorological Department predicts dry weather conditions.

During the intervening nights of Tuesday and Wednesday, Gulmarg and the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam experienced subzero temperatures. Despite this, temperatures across all stations in the Kashmir Valley remained above normal for this time of the season.

Srinagar observed a slight decrease in night temperatures, dropping to 5.4°C during the intervening nights of Tuesday and Wednesday, compared to the previous night’s 5.9°C. This temperature was 1.7°C above the seasonal norm for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

Qazigund, located on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 3.4°C, a decrease from the previous night’s 5.8°C. Similarly, the picnic spot of Kokernag settled at 4.2°C, down from the previous night’s 4.4°C.

Pahalgam saw its night temperature dip to -0.5°C from 1.7°C the day before, yet it remained 0.7°C above normal for this tourist hotspot in south Kashmir.

Gulmarg, the ski resort, experienced a slight improvement in temperature, registering -1.2°C compared to the previous night’s -1.6°C. This temperature was 2.1°C above normal for the valley of meadows in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Kupwara recorded a low of 4.5°C, an increase from the previous night’s 4.0°C. The Meteorological Department reported that this temperature was 2.2°C above normal for the frontier Kashmir district on Tuesday.
