JAMMU, Feb 19: Stringent Security Measures in Place for Prime Minister Modi’s Jammu Visit Officials have confirmed the implementation of a multi-tier security setup and the issuance of traffic advisories in preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Jammu on Tuesday. Modi is slated to address a public rally at Maulana Azad Stadium in the heart of Jammu and Kashmir during his visit on February 20, where he is expected to launch numerous development projects in the education, railway, aviation, and road sectors, collectively valued at Rs 30,500 crore.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has announced that Modi will also distribute appointment letters to approximately 1,500 newly recruited government employees in Jammu and Kashmir and engage with beneficiaries of various schemes as part of the ‘Viksit Bharat, Viksit Jammu’ program.
Security measures have been significantly heightened across Jammu, focusing primarily on the venue of the public meeting and its surrounding areas, according to a senior police officer. A high alert has been sounded along the borders, with reinforced border and highway grids, intensifying patrolling and vehicle checks to thwart potential security threats.
The security agencies have taken control of Maulana Azad Stadium, conducting a thorough anti-sabotage check. In anticipation of the visit, Jammu District Magistrate Sachin Kumar Vaishya imposed a temporary ban on the use of drones, paragliders, and remote-controlled micro-light aircraft as a precautionary measure, citing potential security threats.
Exceptions to the ban include aerial surveillance by security forces during VVIP visits or with specific written permission from the district magistrate’s office, excluding Defence and Para Military Forces. Violation of the order is subject to punitive action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
Despite the prediction of rain in Jammu for the next 24 hours, the BJP has erected necessary arrangements, including waterproof tents, to accommodate the expected one lakh attendees at the rally. Prominent BJP leaders, including J&K unit president Ravinder Raina, have urged people to join the rally, considered the formal launch of the party’s campaign for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The meteorological department forecasts continued wet weather for the next three days, with the possibility of rain during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Jammu. A dry run was conducted from the airport to Maulana Azad road to ensure smooth traffic flow, with restrictions and diversions in place.
A total of 48 locations have been identified for parking vehicles carrying people to the rally venue, and the headquarters central pool security, Jammu, issued a detailed advisory for participants, urging them not to bring certain items. Mobile phones should be kept in silent mode, and participants are advised to cooperate during security checks and ensure entry into the venue before 9.30 am.
