Traffic Department Releases Advisory in Light of Inclement Weather and Icy Road Conditions

Srinagar, January 29: Considering the current weather conditions and icy roads, authorities in Traffic Rural Kashmir issued safety advisories on Monday for motorists navigating hilly roads in the region.

The advisory urges motorists to utilize designated parking slots, emphasizing that strict action will be taken against roadside parking. In conditions of snow or slippery roads, only (4×4) vehicles and those equipped with anti-skid chains, with a seating capacity not exceeding 10 seats, will be permitted on hilly roads. This restriction particularly applies to roads like Tangmarg-Gulmarg, Mughal Road, Zojila, Sinthon, Gurez-Bandipora, Pahalgam-Chandanwari, Kupwara-Karnah, and Kupwara-Machil.

To prevent traffic jams, only registered anti-skid chain vendors will be allowed to install chains at specified locations. The advisory underscores that motorists must strictly adhere to parking regulations, and action will be taken against those incorrectly parking vehicles on the roadside. Vehicles lacking valid documents will not be permitted to traverse hilly roads to ensure safety and prevent untoward incidents.

Following light snowfall in the higher reaches of the Kashmir valley on January 28, the Meteorological Department has forecasted moderate to heavy snowfall in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir on January 30 and 31.
