Jammu, Jan 25 : Two individuals were arrested by the police on Wednesday night, and six others were booked for sharing objectionable content on social media with the intent to create communal tension between two communities in the Jammu region. The arrests and legal actions were initiated in response to a complaint filed by Amit Sharma of Bajalta on behalf of the residents of Khana Chargal village in Jammu district.
According to a police spokesperson, Zaffar Hussain and Nusrat of Bajalta were accused of uploading objectionable content on the Instagram platform, which had the potential to escalate communal tensions. A case was registered at Nagrota police station, leading to the arrest of the two individuals. The investigation into the case is currently underway.
Additionally, the police have taken cognizance of five youths in Ramban district for posting objectionable content on social media platforms, registering cases against them. Another individual in Kathua district was booked for a derogatory post. The police emphasized that all social media platforms are under constant surveillance, with cyber cells closely monitoring posts and comments.
The spokesperson issued a stern warning, stating that strict actions would be taken against those posting provocative content that spreads hatred. The arrests and legal measures align with the authorities’ commitment to maintaining law and order and preventing the misuse of social media for activities that could lead to communal discord.
