Temperature Soars in Kashmir, Yet Minimums Remain Below Freezing

Srinagar, December 12: Despite a notable increase in temperatures last night, Kashmir continued to experience sub-zero minimums, according to officials on Tuesday. Srinagar, having endured the coldest night of the season on Monday, registered a minimum temperature of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to the previous day’s low of minus 4.8 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, a key base for the annual Amarnath Yatra, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the renowned Gulmarg resort in Baramulla district saw a low of minus 3.5 degrees Celsius. Other areas such as Qazigund, Kokernag, and Kupwara recorded minimums of minus 2.6, minus 2.3, and minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, respectively. The meteorological office forecasted generally cloudy yet predominantly dry weather until December 16.
